Bombers

Fighters | Bombers

Since aircraft were first used in warfare there has always been a demand for an airframe capable of carrying large amounts of ordnance to a target. The ability to demoralise, disrupt and destroy the people and infrastructure of an enemy nation over great ranges has at times been considered vital and at others unfair.

The front lines were taken to the civilian population with a variety of effects with the city bombing of World War II. The attacks on both British and German cities galvanised local populations in defiance in the face of the terrible destruction.

On the battlefield, accurate bombing could prove decisive in a campaign. Carpet bombing, where whole areas would be saturated by bombs, was also particularly successful in denying an enemy mobility and control of a battlefield.
