What's your favourite Time Team dig?
The Spitfire at Wierre-Effroy.

What's your favourite Time Team find?
The Ancaster inscription of the god Viridios.

What's the most important Time Team discovery?
That people will watch other people digging for three days on telly year after year even if the programmes have more or less the same scenes in them over and over again.

What's your best Time Team moment?
When the Spitfire flew over the dig in France.

What's your favourite archaeological site in the UK?
Lullingstone Roman villa.

And abroad?
Rome or the Ramesseum, Thebes, Egypt.

Who's your archaeological hero?
Giovanni Battista Belzoni.

What's your favourite archaeology book?
The Oxford Archaeological Guide to Rome by Amanda Claridge (OUP, 1998).

If you could travel to one moment in time, where to and when?
Kent, August 1940, at the height of the Battle of Britain.

If you could dig one site, what would it be?
I most definitely wouldn't go digging anywhere. What a frightful thought. Horrid, filthy activity.

If you could make one find, what would it be?
The missing sections of Tacitus' Annals or an engine from one of the Dams Raid Lancasters of May 1943.
