Q & A
Brendan Hughes, director and producer of the Ainsbrook programme answers our questions. What's your favourite Time Team dig?
Windsor Castle, Big Royal Dig. And why not? The finds were extraordinary and it was a privilege to be in such an amazing place.
What's your favourite Time Team find?
A Roman glass jar found at Glendon.
What's the most important Time Team discovery?
In my book, finding the Round Table building at Windsor in 2006 was important. The building had been lost since the 1340s. No one knew where it had been built, until a combination of geophysics and digging a hole revealed its whereabouts.
What's your best Time Team moment?
My best moment was watching Phil Harding single-handedly hold an aircraft and prevent it falling apart at Warton in 2005 during the bomber shoot. People began to scramble to get a crane and some bits of wood in to try to secure it. Thankfully we did. But for a 15-minute period all we had was Phil leaning against it. If it had leaned over just a little more the whole thing would have collapsed and broken.
What's your favourite archaeological site?
Bawsey was amazing.
Who's your archaeological hero?
Mick Aston. His passion and knowledge are infectious.
What's your favourite archaeology book?
Well, it's not exactly archaeology, but I am a huge fan of the Victoria County History.
If you could travel to one moment in time, where to and when?
Bethlehem, AD1.
If you could dig one site, what would it be?
Stonehenge. What's that all about then?
If you could make one find, what would it be?
The Holy Grail. Of course.
