Kerry Ely

Kerry Ely

Kerry Ely first joined Time Team for the Time Team Live in 1998, when he was used to coordinate local fieldworkers. He persuaded series producer Tim Taylor to allow him to do some digging on the last day, though, and became a regular digger thereafter. He now works for Time Team as the site supervisor, responsible for everything from health and safety requirements to organising which diggers work on which trenches. He says that this role 'takes up most of the year between March and October'.

Kerry completed his archaeology degree at King Alfred's College, Winchester, in 1993, when Time Team was filming the four programmes that made up its first series. The degree involved him in excavations at Shapwick, Somerset, as part of an ongoing project overseen by Mick Aston and Chris Gerard. He was later employed by King Alfred's to teach excavation techniques to students from Winchester and Bristol until the project ended in 2000.

Kerry says he doesn't have a favourite Time Team excavation, but finds all the sites equally interesting in different ways.
