Thomas has been teaching CDT at a Shotton Hall Comprehensive for the past 22 years and is also a qualified youth and community worker – but teaching wasn't his first career. He left school two days before his 15th birthday and went straight into an apprenticeship as a pattern maker with British Steel. It wasn't until 1980 that he went back to education to get his teaching qualification.
Thomas wanted to take part in the programme because he believes his own experience at a secondary modern gave him a fantastic grounding. He wants to show the children of today that being able to think for yourself and working hard can be a good thing.
