That'll Teach 'Em 2

Home

Monday to Friday at 9.30am from 10 January 2005

Last year, a group of GCSE pupils were put through the rigours of O levels and life in a 1950s state grammar boarding school. This year, the time-warp school series has moved on a decade and is putting a bunch of modern-day teens into a 1960s secondary modern, teaching them practical skills like car maintenance, needlework and cooking – not to mention a lot more PE than they're used to.

The practical skills taught in secondary moderns are in short supply today. Can our modern-day pupils learn something from the 1960s system? How will they cope when their mobiles and trainers are replaced with gingham dresses, short-sleeved shirts and stylish tank tops?

Use this website to find out some of the differences between the education system in 1964 and 2004, from lessons to teaching methods. You can also learn more about your favourite pupils and teachers or play our careers officer game to help you make the right decisions about your future career.
