Girls

Aliss
Worcester
Aliss describes herself as a real girly girl and doesn't think she can do anything. She decided to take the challenge because her friends didn't think she could live without all her beauty products. She also wanted to see the contrast between her present school and its 1960s counterpart.

Avril
North Yorkshire
Avril is a bright girl who failed the 11 plus but is still determined to pursue a career as a journalist. She says taking part in the 1960s school may change her attitude on giving up easily.

Charlotte
Manchester
Charlotte is a bit of a clumsy girl. She almost burnt down the house with her hair straighteners and got a can stuck to her finger in home economics. Charlotte wanted to go back in time because her parents say it was harder.

Danielle
Nottinghamshire
Danielle is a very sporty girl and loves to play netball. She wants to be a PE teacher and will miss her hair straighteners. She wanted to go to the school to prove to her grandparents that their lives were not as hard as they make out and to prove she is a strong person.

Erin
Kent
Erin is bubbly, funny and talkative, she loves to shop and has a fetish for shoes. She finds academic work confusing but loves cookery and her ambition is to become a top chef. She wanted a once-in-a-lifetime experience and thinks she will show dedication and will work hard.

Hanna
London
Hanna is an opinionated north London girl. She loves design, especially making clothes, and her passion is photography. She was looking forward to going to the That'll Teach 'Em school to prove she could work hard at something.

Holly
North Yorkshire
Since failing her 11 plus, Holly has improved her academic grades by attending a top private school. She is forthright and strong-willed and dreams of being an estate agent. Holly wanted to bring some class to the school as well as having fun there.

Jennifer
South Yorkshire
Jennifer wanted to prove her parents wrong and show she could stick something out. At school she is much more interested in practical than academic lessons and is hoping to pursue a career as a beauty therapist. Her real passion in life is Rotherham United FC but her dad thinks she is more interested in the players than the actual match.

Kasi
Coventry
Kasi works really hard at school, often staying late to do extra work in the run up to her GCSEs. She wants to get into beauty therapy and does things like facemasks and manicures. She wanted to take part in this year's That'll Teach 'Em to meet new people and prove she could do it.

Maureen
London
Maureen failed her 11 plus and has been working hard to get good grades in her GCSEs. She wanted to take part in the 1960s school to compare it with the present system.

Nikki
Blackpool
Nikki lives in a hotel in Blackpool that her mum manages. She is young at heart, cutesy and girly. She is also a hard worker, cleaning rooms in another hotel as well as serving food. Nikki wanted to make her mum proud of her.

Rosie
London
Rosie says real school is boring and hoped the 1960s school would be more interesting. She thinks she'll be good in the school because she is talkative, outspoken and passionate about her beliefs. When she's not at school, Rosie loves nothing more than to hang out with her friends the 'Drunk Punks', a group of spiky-haired skateboarders who hang out on the South Bank.

Sarah
Kent
Sarah wanted to go back in time to experience what school was like in the 1960s. At school, Sarah is much more practical than academic and has been predicted As in subjects like technology but Ds and Es in things like maths and English. Her ambition is to be a kids TV presenter but if that fails then she wants to be a plumber and earn lots of money.

Sophia
London
Sophia does not like school at all and is always getting in trouble. Her proudest school achievement was the day she sneaked out to go on an anti-war march and ended up with her photo in the national papers. Sophia wanted to see if the school could discipline her and thought she would be a good challenge for the teachers.

Stevie
Hampshire
Stevie hoped the school would make her bright. At the moment, she sees school as a place to socialise. She's giving up academic study next year to train as a beauty therapist but her real ambition is to be a glamour model.

Boys

Alex
Northamptonshire
Alex wants to make new friends and experience the 'good old days'. He's a lively class joker with a short attention span, only really happy when he's out and about on his rollerblades.

Andrew
London
Andrew wanted to go to the 1960s school for an interesting experience and to see if he would prefer the practical lessons of a secondary modern to the academic lessons he finds so boring. His ambition is to be a car mechanic.

Ashley
Brighton
Ashley wanted to do this year's That'll Teach 'Em because he is looking for a challenge. He is outgoing, loud and caring. He enjoys working as a children's entertainer in his spare time. At school he loves dance but hates maths.

Ben
East Grinstead
Ben is a fast talking Sussex lad who loves chasing girls and playing football. Ben hasn't done as well in school as he had hoped and sees the school as his chance to have another shot at the education system, as well as meeting some more girls.

Christopher
Manchester
Chris is a Manchester lad who, unlike most boys his age, still has an active role in the scouts as a beaver leader. While he knows a thing or two about tents, he hates sports. When he's older, he wants to be a teacher and wanted to be in the show to see if he could get a few tips!

Daryl
Cambridgeshire
Daryl wanted to make his family proud of him. He also thought the school would be a giggle and wanted to have a good time. At school he's no star pupil but consistently wins the prize for being the year's 'most humorous male'.

Franklin
London
Unlike other teenagers his age, Franklin loves school and wanted to go to the 1960s school to see how it compared to his ultra-modern inner-city academy in Harlesden. He's a hardworking and dedicated student and his teachers think he might one day be prime minister. Watch out Tony...

Harry
Peterborough
Harry wanted to attend the school to see how differently he would have been treated back then. He doesn't enjoy academic lessons at school and would much rather be out training with the Combined Cadet Force, which he's the head of. Failing that, he prefers to spend his time on the rugby pitch.

Harvey
Wiltshire
Harvey is a loveable rogue from the West Country and he wanted to go the school as he feels it will be his biggest achievement. At school, his favourite subject is break-time. Outside of school, Harvey works at a local chippie. He is a lad who gets on with everyone and describes himself as charismatic, athletic and modest!

Jamie
Sheffield
Jamie doesn't like school and wanted to go back in time to see if he would have preferred it 40 years ago, especially as he thinks he might learn more if the teachers are stricter. His ambition is to be a famous actor and to play James Bond.

Josh
South Yorkshire
Josh wanted to step back in time to prove to his teachers he can make an effort and do better than his bad reputation would suggest. He's a wheeler dealer and is currently much more interested in making his millions selling mobile phones on eBay rather than on what he's going to get in his GCSEs.

Lewis
Leicester
Lewis wanted to know how modern teaching compares with that of forty years ago. He also wanted to know how the teachers would cope with modern kids. When he's not at school he spends all the time he can either dancing or teaching dance at a nearby community centre.

Luke
Hertfordshire
Luke is a golf-mad girl magnet. He finds school boring and takes every opportunity to get out onto the golf course instead. When he's not on the driving range, he likes trying out cheesy chat-up lines on local girls. He wanted to go back in time to find out what his mum went through.

Perry
Leighton Buzzard
Perry wanted to go to the That'll Teach 'Em school because he saw it as a chance to make new friends. He's a fun-loving guy who is very popular at school and, because his dad is a landowner's gardener, is lucky enough to live on a country estate with acres of gardens.

Shina
Essex
Shina wants to be the most loved person in the series. Before entering the school, he said he would bring fun, fashion and culture to the school. He's competitive but also a real team player and loves to play sport.
