In Regency Life:
Miss Martin is the unluckiest time-traveller to be invited to the party, as the Lady's companion has no value at all. She has no option but to do as the hostess tells her, and with so many houseguests, she will be permanently run off her feet. Her room is small and dour, furnished modestly, and close to the hostess. Her wardrobe is very limited, though she may be lucky in securing the cast offs from the hostess (which would be rather old fashioned) or the other rich girls. When special guests are invited to the house she is obliged to eat alone in her room.
In Real Life:
Francesca, aged 22, has just completed a History degree at Bristol University, where she wrote a dissertation on alcohol and drinking in 19th society. She is an aspiring writer and has started writing a chick-lit novel, which she hopes to finish at the end of this year. She has also kept a diary for the last ten years. She is currently a member of a weekly TV workshop and hopes to be able to use this experience to do some TV presenting in the future. She coaches lacrosse as a part-time job and has played for her university and England under 21s in the past. She admits that the Regency House Party was one of the most incredible experiences of her life, as through it she got to meet Mr Daly (the Under-Steward at Kentchurch Court).
