Chaperone to Miss Hopkins
£50 whilst in house + bonus if she secures an engagement for her charge

In Regency Life:
Lady Devonport has been hired by Mr. Hopkins to "out" his daughter, Victoria into society. In order to do so, Lady Devonport needs to use her connections and her understanding of the complex world of aristocratic manners to help her charge to secure the hand of a wealthy young gentlemen. If she is successful she will be given a £500 bonus by Mr. Hopkins (the equivalent of £15,000 in 2003).

In Real Life:
Lady Devonport is a Lady by marriage (her husband was a Peer Of The Realm). However they are now divorced. She has raised two daughters single-handedly: one is severely physically handicapped and now lives independently from Lady Devonport. She wanted to be a chaperone because she has a skill "at caring and nurturing for young people", and also a familiarity with "the manners, customs and strange social nuances of the British Upper Classes". She often works with deprived young people from the Newcastle area. She rides her horse every day, plays cards and was a model in her youth. She has run her own antiques business, reared and trained horses and pigs, had an interior design business and a Christmas decoration retail business. She is also on several charity fund raising committees and has a certificate in counselling.
