Merit Researcher - Hominids Natural History Museum, London
Chris is recognised as one of the world's leading experts on Neanderthals. He was one of the founders of the Out of Africa theory of human evolution and has published numerous books and articles on both Neanderthals and the origins of modern humans.

Neanderthals have fascinated Chris since childhood. His interest was awakened by a radio broadcast that reconstructed a Neanderthal burial. He soon visited the Natural History Museum to find out more. 20 years later he returned to the museum, this time as a research scientist. He continues to work there to this day.

His current research is based around his role as leader of the Gibraltar Caves Project, which is examining the transition from Neanderthals to modern humans in this region. He is also writing a book on human evolution with his colleague Peter Andrews.
