How to use the timeline
Click on the timeline at any point, hold down and drag the cursor to the left or right until you arrive at the entry you want to investigate. If you mouse-over any of the icons attached to most entries, you will be told how many websites, books and/or places to visit are included in that entry.
As an alternative to clicking on the timeline and dragging, try moving it along by using the timeline overview to the right of 'Show options' in the grey bar. Simply click and hold the vertical bar and move it to the right or left between the years 390 and 2000.
To reach a specific time, insert the year you want in the 'Go to year' box on the right-hand side of the grey bar and then click on 'OK'.
Click on 'Show options' and you will find all the different types of entries in the timeline. Tick one or more of these and they will be the only ones to appear. Alternatively, tick 'All' and you will get all of the entries in the timeline.
