Provisions of Oxford

Provisions of Oxford

1258

In 1258, a group of barons, unhappy with Henry III's incompetent rule, forced him to accept a set of reforms. Their effect was to take power out of the king's hands and establish instead a governing council responsible to the barony in Parliament. For more details, see Power and the people.
