tackles the issues of racism and colonialism. After a young white woman
is raped, tensions rise between the British rulers and the Indian people.
The Chess Players,
written by Munshi Premchand, directed by Satayjit Ray (1997)
Wonderful film focusing on Wazed Ali Shah, ruler of one of the last independent
kingdoms of India. The film deals with the British threat to India against
the backdrop of Shah composing poems and music, and of course playing
chess.
