Under scrutiny
Military leadership
Roosevelt |
**** |
Unlike the other great wartime leaders, Roosevelt did not take a direct role in military operations, despite being commander-in-chief of US armed forces by virtue of his position as president. Instead he delegated authority to commanders such as the army chief of staff General George C Marshall and the Allied supreme commander in Europe, Dwight D Eisenhower. Arguably, through the efforts of these men he was the most effective military leader of all.
