Map: The Spanish Armada

At the height of summer 1588, a huge Spanish fleet – known to this day as the Armada – sailed to England with the aim of collecting an army from Low Countries (then under Spanish rule) and invading the 'rogue state' of England.

The Ulster Museum in Belfast has a fabulous collection of finds from one of the wrecks from the Spanish Armada.
