Splendour of empire India: December 1911
NARRATOR: (MUSIC) In India, as throughout the Empire, loyalty to the
Crown grew stronger as the years of peace lengthened. With Eastern splendour,
preparations were put forward to welcome King George and Queen Mary at
the Delhi Durbar. The empire had its first insight into the unswerving
sense of duty of the new king and queen who now came to be proclaimed
emperor and empress of India. The viceroy, Lord Harding, presented the
loyal address of the government of India, where each of the 98 native
rulers avowed his loyalty.
