Flower Power New York 'love-in': 1969
More than 1,000 hippies celebrate the coming of spring in New York's
Central Park with music, dancing and flowers.
Long hair, multi-coloured and ethnic clothing, beads and bells, rock
music and drugs are symbols of the youth rebellion of the 1960s and the
baby-boomers' rejection of the values of the older generation. Huge music
festivals, 'love-ins', 'dropping out' and flower power are part of an
international counterculture, which embraces anti-war, anti-discrimination
and civil rights protests.
