About this clip

Make love, not war – John and Yoko: March 1969

In March 1969, John Lennon of The Beatles marries Yoko Ono at the Hilton Hotel in Amsterdam. They celebrate their honeymoon by staying in bed for seven days for peace.

The Beatles were the first super group. From late 1963, Ringo Starr, George Harrison, John Lennon and Paul McCartney were idols of the world's teenagers. Their music, dress, longer hair and political views influenced many young people. In 1969, when Lennon marries Yoko Ono, their honeymoon becomes a publicity opportunity: a very public, private protest against war.
