Mandela prepared to die for an ideal: 1961
After the Sharpeville massacre and banning of the African National Congress
(ANC) in South Africa in 1960, Nelson Mandela faces certain arrest if
he takes further action. He goes into hiding, but still gives media interviews.
In hiding in 1961, Mandela keeps up attacks on Verwoerd's government,
organising an illegal general strike to cripple the economy. He uses disguises
and surprise appearances to avoid arrest. Questions put to Mandela in
a TV interview reveal the fears and attitudes of whites to the black majority.

reporter interviewing Mandela at a secret location.
