Dreadful end of the Hindenburg: 6 May 1937
In 1937, the great airship Hindenburg prepares to dock after travelling
to the US from Germany. What happens next means the end of airship passenger
services.
After World War I, airships were used for commercial and passenger services
and, from 1928, carrying passengers across the Atlantic. On 6 May 1937,
the most modern German airship, Hindenburg, with 50 passengers,
approaches the mooring mast in New Jersey after a routine flight, dropping
water ballast. Ground crew wait for the ropes.
Paramount News: news footage with sound effects and commentary added
after the event to make it into a story.
