Birth of Princess Vicky

Previous Previous event | Timeline | Next event Next

Queen Victoria's first child, Princess Victoria Adelaide Mary Louise, is born almost exactly nine months after her parents' marriage. Princess Vicky, as she is always known, will be the eldest of nine children. She marries Frederick William, crown prince of Prussia, and in 1888 is briefly empress of Germany before her husband's reign is cut short by his early death. Their son becomes Emperor William II of Germany, also known as Kaiser Wilhelm, later Britain's great enemy during World War I.
