Great Plague of London

The burial of Margaret Porteous, the first official victim of the Great Plague. London is devastated by this major outbreak of the bubonic plague, which is spread by the flea of the black rat, and which kills about 110,000 people by December. At its height, more than 7,000 people die every week, infected houses are marked with crosses and the victims are buried in mass graves.
