Roanoke colony set up

Sir Richard Grenville MP, a relative of Walter Ralegh, returns to England with news of the Ralegh-sponsored colonisation of Roanoke Island, in Virginia (named after Elizabeth I, the Virgin Queen). It is England's first overseas colony and marks the beginning of its involvement in North America.
