19 June 1566
Mary Queen of Scots gives birth to a son, who later becomes James VI of Scotland and eventually James I of England. After the death of her first husband, Francis II, in 1560, Mary returns to Scotland as queen. She then marries Henry Stewart, Lord Darnley, a Catholic, but despite her pregnancy, their relations turn sour. When Darnley is murdered, Mary is thought to be involved because she marries the chief suspect, James Hepburn, the 4th earl of Bothwell. |
