Treaty of Berwick

Elizabeth I agrees to the Treaty of Berwick, in which England supports the Scottish Lords of the Congregation. This group of Protestant noblemen, allied to the Calvinist reformer John Knox, have deposed the Catholic regent Mary of Guise, widow of James V and mother of Mary Queen of Scots. Mary of Guise and her daughter stay in France, where in 1558 the latter marries the dauphin Francis.
