Wales incorporated into England

Previous Previous event | Timeline | Next event Next

The English Parliament annexes Wales. According to this Act, followed by a second in 1543, laws and justice are to be administered in Wales in the same form as in England. The two countries are now united, and the Marcher Lordships – on the border of England and Wales – are abolished; new counties are established; and justices of the peace are empowered to hold courts. English is made the official language of administration and daily use.
