English land at Calais

A 35,000-strong English army, led by Henry VIII, lands at Calais, which is ruled by England. With the help of Austrian mercenaries, it defeats the French at Therouanne on 22 August. The hasty retreat of the French results in the English calling this the 'Battle of the Spurs'.
