Henry VIII becomes king

On the death of Henry VII, his son becomes Henry VIII. One year later, on 17 August, in a bid to gain popularity, he executes Richard Empson and Edmund Dudley, two of his father's chief fundraisers. Their speciality was thinking up schemes to tax the nobles to raise funds for the crown.
