900th anniversary of Rome

Previous Previous event | Timeline | Next event Next

The 900th anniversary of Rome is celebrated in great style as the empire basks in a long period of relative peace and prosperity. Although the reign of Antoninus (AD 138-161) sees revolts in Mauretania, Germany, Egypt, Greece and the Middle East, there are no major wars. Back in Rome, relations between the emperor and the Senate are good, state finances are sound and the public mood largely calm. It is a good time to be celebrating such an important anniversary.
