Pantheon completed at Rome

Previous Previous event | Timeline | Next event Next

The year after work commences on Hadrian's imperial villa at Tivoli (it will take 10 years to complete), one of the greatest of all Roman buildings – the Pantheon – is finished in Rome. Hadrian often holds court in its great domed hall. The dome is 42 metres (138 feet) in diameter – larger than that of St Peter's in the modern-day Vatican. It is still standing almost 2,000 years later.
