David Frost (b. 1939) leapt to fame in Britain as presenter of the BBC-TV satirical series That Was the Week that Was (1962-3). This was followed by The Frost Report (BBC, 1966) sketch show and The Frost Programme (ITV, 1966-8), which featured hard-hitting interviews. In later years, however, Frost became an increasingly sycophantic interviewer on the Breakfast with Frost series (BBC, 1993-2005). Antony Jay is best known as the co-writer (with Jonathan Lynn) of the Yes, Minister (1980-4) and Yes, Prime Minister (1986-8) BBC-TV series. He also served as a part-time speech writer to Conservative minister Nigel Lawson and was a partner (with John Cleese) in the Video Arts training film company. In 1968, Jay and Frost collaborated on the book The English, also known as To England with Love, from which this quote was taken. While official British crime statistics tend to assign most crime to young working-class men, it is also recognised that ‘white collar’ and corporate crime – that is, crime carried out by the middle and upper classes – is greatly under-recorded.
