Britain's leading museum on warfare since 1900, the IWM London facility is complemented by IWM North (Manchester) and by IWM Duxford (Cambridgeshire) for aviation. The IWM also looks after HMS Belfast (moored on the Thames) and the Cabinet War Rooms (Whitehall). It runs an education service, online exhibitions and temporary exhibitions. This is the British army's own museum, the only one to tell its story from Agincourt to its 21st-century peace-keeping duties. It also holds an extensive collection of World War I artefacts.

The Somme Heritage Centre depicts the impact of the war on soldiers and on the communities they left behind. As well as providing information about the overall Irish contribution to World War I, the centre commemorates the involvement of the 36th (Ulster) and 16th (Irish) Divisions in the Battle of the Somme and the 10th (Irish) Division in Gallipoli, Salonika and Palestine. The centre also features a multi-media recreation of the Battle of the Somme, a 'hands-on' activity area and audio testimony from veterans.

The museum houses the world's largest collection of armoured fighting vehicles. It includes three World War I tanks: a Mark II, a Whippet and a Mark V, all of which saw service during the war. T E Lawrence served in the Tank Corps at Bovington Camp in the latter part of his life. One mile north of the museum, off the B3390, is his cottage, Cloud's Hill, which has been preserved (by the National Trust) just as he left it when he died.

Located in the Cloth Hall in Ieper (Ypres), this modern interactive museum depicts the suffering of both soldiers and citizens, and portrays the destruction of the old town during the 1914-18 war.

A privately owned museum containing a collection of military equipment, photographs and badges. The memorial on Hill 60 has the remains of several concrete bunkers and craters, and is preserved almost as it was found at the end of the war.

A privately owned museum containing original trenches in a small section of a wood known to British soldiers as Sanctuary Wood. The museum contains equipment, photographs and a large collection of three-dimensional photo images in viewing boxes.

Formerly a quarry that was occupied by the Germans and transformed into a command post, parts of it were recaptured by French forces in 1917. The current museum offers insight into the lives of the troops in both armies.
