Army : 25,000-strong part-time militia (1911). In December 1914, the New Zealand Expeditionary Force and the Australian Imperial Force combined to form the Australia and New Zealand Army Corps, or Anzac. A total of 124,000 New Zealanders joined the army during World War I
Navy : 1 battle-cruiser, three cruisers, several torpedo boats. New Zealand's small navy was taken under UK Admiralty control when the war started.
Casualties by 1918 : 17,000 dead, 40,750 wounded
