Our three groups of slimmers are confined to a the Institute of Physical Culture, a turn of the 20th century health farm, presided over by Institute Director, Sir Roy Strong.
Director of the Institute – Sir Roy Strong
Sir Roy Strong is an historian, writer, landscape designer and former director of the National Portrait Gallery and the Victoria and Albert Museum. He is author of 'Feast: A History of Grand Eating' as well as numerous works on history, art and gardens. He enjoys keeping fit and staying trim and jogs five miles a day.

Matron – Mrs Jane DeVille-Almond
Mrs Deville-Almond has 30 years' experience as a nurse, working as a midwife, school nurse and health visitor. She now specialises in obesity management, setting up and running weight-loss clinics as well as training other health professionals. She is director and trustee of the national obesity forum.

Professor of Physical Culture – Professor Peter Radford
Professor Radford is a former international sprinter. In 1958 he ran the 100 metres in a time of 10.29 seconds, a new British record, which stood for 20 years. In 1960 he won bronze Olympic medals in the 100 metres and 4 x 100 metres relay. He is a former chair of UK Athletics and Professor of Sports Science at Brunel University. He is currently editing a history of women in sport.

Dance and Movement – Elizabeth, Lady Devonport
Lady Devonport is a graduate of the Elmhurst School of Ballet and famously was a model for Mary Quant. She was introduced to Physical Culture by her mother-in-law, the 2nd Viscountess Devonport. She was one of the chaperones in the Channel 4 series, Regency House Party.

Butler to Sir Roy – Mr Hugh Robert Edgar
Mr Edgar is an award-winning architect and amateur historian. He has practiced his own unique form of physical culture for over 50 years.
