When is it open?

The museum is open every day except 1 January, Good Friday and 24–26 December.

Galleries (collections)
Saturday–Wednesday: 10am to 5.30pm
Thursday–Friday: 10am to 8.30pm

Check the British Museum website for notices of any gallery closures, as well as information on access, tours, group visits and much more.

Great Court
Sunday–Wednesday: 9am to 6pm
Thursday–Saturday: 9am to 11pm

How much does it cost?

Entry to the British Museum’s collections is free to all visitors, although there may be a charge for special exhibitions.

If you are a British Museum Friend, you will be able to visit all exhibitions for free.

Are there any special events?

The British Museum is virtually humming with activity every day. There are talks, seminars, films, lectures and special events and performances taking place, many of them free and some of them designed just for families.
