Books

Raglan Castle by John Kenyon (CADW: Welsh Historic Monuments, 1994) £2.25
The official guidebook. Like all CADW guides, this is well-researched and well-written, with dozens of colour pictures, map and plans.

The Decline of the Castle by Michael Welman Thompson (Cambridge University Press, 1987) £31.56
As well as discussing Raglan, this book explains how castles in general fell out of fashion from the 14th century onwards. Contains a gazetteer of castles which were destroyed or ruined during the English Civil War.

The Great Rebuildings of Tudor and Stewart England by Colin Platt (University College London Press, 1994) £16.99
Recommended for anyone wishing to know more about the kind of rebuilding work undertaken at Raglan during the 16th century.

Destruction in the English Civil Wars by Stephen Porter (Alan Sutton, 1997) £10.99
Authoritative, illustrated account of the huge amount of destruction, much of it deliberate, which took place during the 1640s.
