Find out more

Want to know more about the war-time experiences of a family member who served in Bomber Command? These organisations can help you track down their details.

Information you'll need
The more information you can assemble about an airman before you start querying official sources, the better your chances of success. Try to provide:

  • service number
  • anything you know about where he served. Bomber Command was divided into groups, each of which were composed of squadrons. Knowing the aerodrome, or 'station', from which your man worked will also help.
  • Where to search

If you are directly related to the person you are inquiring about, the RAF's Personnel Management Agency may be able to supply his service record. The Agency releases service records to the airman himself or his next-of-kin; anyone else must obtain written permission from the person in question (or his next-of-kin). There is a fee of £25.
