Yemeni mummies uncovered
The age-old mystery as to why our ancestors chose to preserve their dead
has been given an extraordinary twist with the discovery of a wholly new
mummy-making culture in the Republic of Yemen, a land the Bible calls
the ends of the Earth.
Only recently has this ancient, remote and inaccessible country opened
its doors and allowed scientists to unlock it secrets. The latest news
to come out of the Yemen is startling. There are reports that the ancient
Arabians preserved their dead transforming them into mummies hiding them
high up on cliff faces.
Archaeologists who travelled to the land of the legendary Queen of Sheba
are now speculating about whether the Shebans did develop a mummification
culture to rival that of the Egyptians. Their findings could rewrite the
story of the ancient world as we know it.
