Best find of the first day... a complete Roman urn! The site consists of two superimposed Roman forts, revealed in detail recently by geophysics (early 2003), an earlier, larger one, and a smaller, later one. Roman pottery and coins have been turning up in this general area for many years. There is what is suspected to be a vicus outside the north-east gate, and a probable bath-house lies detached away to the north-west.
Having a break in the middle of the later fort! |
