Web exclusive - Big Dig is a qualified success!
19/12/03, 12:10
Katie
You may have seen the lads from Onley Young Offenders Institute on the Saturday evening programme of Big Dig week. Each of the 4 lads passed their course and gained a Warwick University Certificate and 5 CATS points. 2 of the boys have since been released: 1 is being filmed by the BBC for a doc on his life after release and the other has a place to study at Warwick University! Good news.

21/07/03, 11:32
Katie
It's good practice to get your finds checked out by a museum - and so we have prepared a list of those museums (above) around the country who are happy to take a look at what you've got. The important thing is to RING FIRST and make an appointment!

Web exclusive! - Update

Katie
Hillside Cub Scout group have uncovered a previously unknown early medieval floor in Forge Farm, Thirlby, North Yorkshire. Along with with a series of stones they found green glaze pottery - which is how we know it's medieval!
The County Archaeologist has said that she thinks it's evidence of a Medieval potting village (where pots are made!) because that village did specialise in making pottery. The pottery has been dated to about 1250 AD by the scouts using a book.
