1000 AD explored everyday life in England at the turn of the last millennium, as Viking longships prowled the coast and the Church warned of Armageddon. The programme was filmed at a reconstructed Anglo-Saxon village at West Stow, near Bury St Edmunds, which was settled in about 420 AD and abandoned around 650 AD. Excavations began in 1965, and the current structures have been built on the same sites as the originals. This website invites you to step back in time to 1000 AD and presents an A-Z survival guide to Anglo-Saxon life. It also includes links to other sites. Waes hael! |
