Make Me A Virgin
First shown on Channel 4 in May 2007
Make Me A Virgin is the second film in Channel 4's Virgin Season. The season features three one-off documentaries (Virgin School, Make Me a Virgin and Desperate Virgins) that examine perhaps the most anticipated time in a person's life – bidding farewell to your virginity.
Make Me A Virgin is a one-off, one hour documentary where filmmaker and ex-evangelical Christian Jamie Campbell investigates the claim that more and more teenagers are holding on to their virginity as a reaction against the sex obsessed culture of our times.
He is asked by the members of the Silver Ring Thing, an American organisation promoting sexual abstinence, who have set up their UK headquarters in Horsham, to make a series of videos promoting their message to young British people. The Silver Ring Thing is a Christian group of young professional abstainers that religiously believe young people should not have sex before marriage.
Jamie travels to the United States and meets some of those involved in the big business of selling virginity as a lifestyle choice including Fred Stoeker and his family. Fred is the author of such books as Every Young Man's Battle which gives practical advice to those who want to remain chaste until marriage. His son Jasen was a virgin until his wedding day and had not even kissed a girl until the ceremony!
After experiencing one of the huge teenage abstinence rallies put on by U.S outfits like Acquire the Fire, he returns to the UK and confronts the Silver Ring Thing with his findings.
