Whilst the ladies of Portsmouth try out the Masai-style trainer, Anna's diet test this week takes her further south to the Kalahari. The diet pills she is going to test are made from the Hoodia, a cactus-like plant from the Kalahari desert. The local tribesmen use it to combat hunger when hunting. But how will Anna cope in a very urban London?
Not that well is the answer. Her appetite has gone completely and she's shuffling food round her plate. Not only that, she's not feeling brilliant either as she's getting headaches and feeling decidedly queasy.
She visits a London specialist who tells her diet pills work in one of four ways:
- Make you feel full
- Act as a laxative
- Act as a diuretic
- Suppress the appetite
Like it or not, he says, the only real way to lose weight is to eat a balanced diet and do some exercise.
So, before the week is up Anna has had enough and gives up. It just doesn't look there is a magic pill.
She has lost 2lbs.
