Romantic dinner for two

Romantic dinner for two
This week Gillian McKeith out with the jivers. But will there be murder on the dance floor or will they know their calories and be able to be romantic without getting gigantic?

The meals to choose from this week were:

  • Salmon Caesar Salad including parmesan shavings and croutons
  • Steak and chips
  • Lamb shank with roasted vegetables

In between shimmying their way across to see Gillian the jivers were put to the test and 50% chose steak and chips as having the highest calories. Were they right?
Romantic dinner for two
Definitely not. Only eight of the 100 asked guessed correctly that the Salmon Caesar Salad had the highest calorie count. Scoring 815 calories the salmon meal was weighed down by the parmesan and croutons with lots of oily dressing. Salmon is higher in calories than white fish but is good for you, but keep it simple and you'll get those calories down.
The final positions were:
  • Salmon Caesar Salad – 815 calories
  • Lamb shank – 645 calories a serving
  • Steak and chips – 517 calories

If you like lamb why not take a look at other cuts and joints. A Sainsbury's leg joint with redcurrant and rosemary sauce comes in at 354 calories a serving. If you add some roast vegetables you will add another 100 or so calories.

You can enjoy your steak and chips even more if you get very lean rump steak and serve it with home-made potato wedges, cooked without oil.
