Puddings

Puddings
Last week Gillian McKeith was at the dog track this week she's with the horsey set at The Horse of The Year Show at Olympia. Will these equestrian fanciers know their puddings as well as they know horses?

In amongst the horse flesh Gillian's three model males show the three puddings:

  • Apple pie and custard
  • Belgian Chocolate Cheesecake
  • Fresh fruit and Chocolate Pavlova

Puddings
So which of these three tempting puddings will the horse lovers think has the highest calorie count?

41% said the Pavlova had the highest number of calories. But were they right?

No, by a short head it's the Belgian Chocolate Cheesecake coming at 530 calories a serving which is equivalent to eight Bourbon biscuits. The final placings were:

  • Belgian Chocolate Cheesecake – 530 calories
  • Apple pie and custard – 503 calories
  • Fresh fruit and Chocolate Pavlova – 326 calories

Puddings
Gillian suggested some lower calorie alternatives such as:
  • Aunt Bessie's Apple Pie – 360 calories a serving
  • Waitrose Danish Pastry Apple Tart – 140 calories a serving
  • Fru Rhubarb, Apple and Ginger Crumble – 219 calories a serving
  • Sainsbury's Apple Crumble – 259 calories a serving

If in doubt, go for fruit desserts without the double pastry crust and save about 100 calories a serving and if you do fancy making a Pavlova then ditch the cream for low fat crème fraiche, have less meringue and add more fruit.
