Working Lunches

Working lunches
The market traders and shoppers of St Albans are this week's unsuspecting public for Gillian McKeith's calorie quiz.

Flanked by her hunky men Gillian shows the shoppers three typical working lunches:

  • 2 ham rolls
  • Ginster's Cornish pasty
  • Chargrilled chicken with bacon pasta salad

Working lunches
She asked 100 traders and shoppers which of these three dishes they thought had the most calories. The result – 66 of the 100 plumped for the Cornish pasty. But is that the right choice?

No, it isn't. This week's working lunch with the highest calorie count is the chargrilled chicken and pasta salad. The calories counts are:

Working lunches
  • Chargrilled chicken with bacon pasta salad – 740 calories
  • Ginster's Cornish pasty – 580 calories
  • 2 ham rolls – 455 calories

The chargrilled chicken salad at 740 calories is equivalent to two Chicken Kievs or five large bowls of Minestrone soup.

Working lunches
If you want a pasty why not look out for the lower calorie ones from Sainsbury's, Marks & Spencer as well as Tesco's Finest which are all between 340 and 380 calories.

With your ham roll make sure you have lean ham, hold off on the butter, minimise the mayo and keep clear of any cheese.
