The internet has brought a revolution to British pensioners looking for love. Tens of thousands of ageing men and women are now using it to seek romance, build relationships and escape loneliness. The myth of pensioners quietly sipping Ovaltine in their carpet slippers is over, with most dating websites including pages of postings from people with usernames like 'techno-granddad'.

This heartwarming and life-affirming film, the third in the new four-part run of Channel 4's Bafta Award-Winning Only Human series, spins many of the stereotypes of old age on their head. The result is a film which is at turns funny, poignant and surprising. Silver Surfers explores the universal desire everyone shares to find love, but with an age group normally condemned by prejudices to a passive and unadventurous role in life. Nothing could be further from the truth.
