Bone Marrow Donation

Note: The two main bone marrow registries in the UK are The Anthony Nolan Trust's Register and the British Bone Marrow Registry (BBMR). If you would like to register as a potential bone marrow donor on the BBMR, you must also be a blood donor. Alternatively, you can join the Anthony Nolan Register who do not require that you are a blood donor. The two registers also have different age criteria for joining – contact the organisations below for more details.

The Anthony Nolan Trust is responsible for finding suitable unrelated donors for patients who require bone marrow transplants. The Anthony Nolan Trust saves lives thanks to UK residents who have volunteered to donate bone marrow to any patient in need. However, there are not enough donors registered, and this article explains why more black and minority ethnic donors are urgently needed. To find out about becoming a donor, call 020 7284 1234 and ask for the Donor Recruitment Department or e-mail newdonor@anthonynolan.org.uk. Or follow this link for details of donor recruitment clinics in your area.
