Write into the Future

Why Write | Little Box of Thoughts | Wish Box | Letters for the Future | Sarah's Letter

Similar to the little box of thoughts, but this focuses on wishes made by a parent on behalf of their child. It's another way of encouraging communication between a parent and a child when someone is seriously ill.

Either make your own from small cards or buy a specially made one from Winston’s Wish. One nice idea is to add a dandelion seed for each wish, so that every time your child blows a dandelion clock they can remember your wishes. This is a lasting way to let a child know they are loved unconditionally and that a parent's love endures throughout serious illness.

Here are some examples of what other parents have written:

  • I wish… that you will always remember just how much dad and I love you. Love Mum. X

  • I wish… that you will learn to have great confidence in yourself. I have great confidence in you and always will. Love Dad. x

  • I wish… that you will always feel OK about showing your feelings when you want to, with people you trust. Love Mum. X

  • I wish… that you can grow up to be both strong and gentle, sensitive and tough, calm and emotional, serious and playful. Dad. X

  • I wish… that you can forget the times we argued. I am so very proud of you and always will be. Love Dad. x
