Hair extensions and wefts
Extensions and wefts are made of human or artificial hair, and give volume, length or decorative effect to natural hair. You can use them to create a wide range of looks and styles.
Extensions
If you are considering extensions you need a healthy scalp and a full head of healthy hair at least 10cm long.
Extensions can be woven or braided into your hair, or glued to the hair or scalp. They are applied by a salon, and cost from £100. It can take two staff a whole day to attach a full head of extensions, hence the cost. As an alternative, you can have just a few extensions, to lengthen your fringe or add a few highlights. Extensions should last three to four months.
Wefts
You can apply hair wefts yourself. They are clipped, or sometimes glued, in place, and can be removed whenever you want.
The weft is attached to a tiny clip, which is hidden by the rest of your hair. You can choose a colour to match your own natural hair if you want to use the weft for natural-looking length, or go for a different colour for a highlighted effect. Prices vary widely depending on quality and length. Expect to pay around £2 per 2.5cm length for a weft made from human hair.
